Creative Arts Center

Ourstory.

A youth-led center in Kakuma, built on one belief: young people can lead.

This is who we are, where we work and where we are headed.

Young members of the Creative Arts Center gathered together in Kakuma

Built by young people, for young people.

  1. Where we are

A place where many communities meet

Kakuma sits in Turkana West, in the north-west of Kenya. It is home to refugees from many African countries, and to the Turkana community who host them. Young people from both groups share the same streets, schools and futures.

The Creative Arts Center is rooted in Kakuma 2, and our doors are open to young people from every community.

  2. What we believe

    Young people are already leading

Young people are not waiting to be helped. They are already creating, organising and leading in their own communities.

What they often lack is space, tools and trust. We provide those, then step back so they can lead.

  3. Where we are headed

A Center that young people run themselves

We want a Center that young people in Kakuma run and grow themselves, with partners and supporters beside them for as long as they are needed.

Self-reliance is the goal. Every program we start is built with that in mind: local skills, local leaders and lasting results.
