LeadershipSkills

Young people learning to speak up, take charge and bring others with them.

At the Creative Arts Center, young people practise the skills real leaders need: communicating clearly, working in teams, solving problems and taking responsibility for projects that matter in their community.

Leadership is a skill, and skills can be taught

Young people in Kakuma already organise, mentor and solve problems every day. We give that natural leadership structure, practice and a platform.

With the right habits and room to try, they grow from taking part into leading others.

Skills we build

Six habits of every good leader, practised in real situations.

  • Speaking up

Sharing ideas clearly and with confidence, in a group or in front of a crowd.

  • Teamwork

Working with different people towards one goal.

  • Making decisions

Weighing options, listening, then choosing and owning the result.

  • Solving problems

Looking at what is wrong and finding a practical fix.

  • Running projects

Planning, organising and following through from idea to finish.

  • Mentoring

Guiding newcomers and helping others grow.

Your leadership ladder

Everyone starts somewhere. Responsibility grows as confidence does.

  1. Take part

Join sessions, listen and learn how things run.

  2. Take a role

Lead a small task, like welcoming newcomers or running part of a session.

  3. Lead a project

Plan and run an activity or event with a team.

  4. Guide others

Coach newer members and help shape where the Center goes next.
